Founded by Erin Fitzgerald, FemTribe is one of the most respected health and wellness brands for women in the field.
My name is Erin Fitzgerald and I currently live in Denver, CO. I moved to Denver four years ago where I danced professionally for a few modern and jazz companies. In addition to my dance career, I am also a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) licensed personal trainer with specialties in women, women's weight loss, and sports performance. In addition to training clients one-on-one, I also teach group exercise classes, run boot camps, and teach Zumba.
My History: How I got to Denver and what lead me to establish FemTribe
I grew up in Knoxville, TN to a very athletic family. On weekends we were constantly driving up in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park (only a short 45 minute drive) to go hiking, rock climbing and camping. My family also owned a boat and couple of jet skis, so during the summer months, water sports were very popular, especially in that southern Tennessee humidity! I loved wake boarding and water skiing, and would spend all summer perfecting my techniques.
My mother is really into horses, so she made my sister and I take equestrian lessons from the time I was born. While, I ended up not particularly liking the sport as much as some others, my younger sister still rides and competes to this day, and has become an extremely talented and accomplished equestrian rider.
In addition to my active family, I also played about every sport while in school. I absolutely loved soccer and basketball, but also played volleyball and ran track. All the while, I was still dancing; studying ballet, modern, horton, and jazz. In high school, it became time to choose which sport to devote my time to, and without hesitation, I knew it was dance.
Throughout high school, I dedicated nearly every waking moment to dance. I was in a pre-professional performing company where we performed a variety of styles including classical and contemporary ballet, modern, jazz, and contemporary. After graduating high school, I attended the University of Iowa on scholarship to attend their dance school. While there, I received my BFA in Dance with high honors and distinction.
It was during my sophomore year of college when I received my Zumba license and started teaching twice a week at the University Rec Center. While there, my fitness manager at the time told me that I should consider personal training. So with that, I studied up and became an AFAA licensed trainer.
Three days after graduating from Iowa, I packed up and moved across the country to Denver, CO where I had signed a contract with my first professional dance company: Kim Robards Dance. I spent a year there and then started dancing for Hannah Kahn Dance and Apex Jazz Dance. In order to supplement my dance career, I got a job as a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness and started teaching Zumba at Denver University a couple times a week.
As a trainer, I work with a plethora of different body types, personalities, ages, and genders, but my specialty is women and women’s weight loss. I love helping people learn about their bodies and showing them healthy ways to reach their individual fitness goals. In today’s society, it is so easy to get caught up in what media wants us to look like (and this is especially prevalent for women), so when I work with clients, I focus on changing their perspective of their body and fitness from a healthy and acceptance based goal. And don’t worry, I can have you sweating and huffing and puffing all at the same time!
I got into personal training because I wanted to help people learn how to love and shape their bodies into something they are proud of. As someone who has struggled with an eating disorder, I aim to educated women about their bodies from a place of love and acceptance. fight for the body they have.
So through this website, I want to further help my clients, other women, fitness fanatics and whoever is on a journey to better health, to explore healthy recipes, challenging exercises, motivational thoughts and discussions on current health topics. Fitness has changed my life in so many wonderful and powerful ways, and it is my hope that I can pass on some of the knowledge I have gained through my journey thus far, in order to help others.
